Papankusha Ekadashi is well known on the Ekadashi of Ashwin Shukla Paksha.  In accordance with the outline within the Puranas about Papankusha Ekadashi, in line with this ritual, by observing this quick one can get happiness, prosperity, and happiness in life as well as get rid of sins.

Due to this fact, this Ekadashi is known as 'Papankusha Ekadashi'. It's stated that an individual who observes this Ekadashi fasting duly attains heaven. It is also believed that Papankusha Ekadashi benefits for the next ten generations.

Papankusha Ekadashi Puja Vidhi

  • Seven cereals, ie wheat, urad, moong, gram, barley, rice, and lentils, should not be eaten on Dashmi Tithi, as these seven cereals are worshiped on Ekadashi. 
  • As far as possible, both Dashami and Ekadashi Tithi needs to be spoken at least. On the tenth date, one should not consume tamasic items in food and observe full celibacy. 
  • On the day of Ekadashi, after taking a shower in the morning, one should take a vow of fast.
  •  Decision should be taken according to its energy, that is, for one-time grace or with out food. 
  • After taking a resolution, a small set up is done and a statue of Shri Vishnu is placed on it. 
  • The person performing this fast should recite Vishnu Sahastranam at night. 
  • This fast ends on the morning of Dwadashi after the donation of meals and the Dakshina to the Brahmins.

Papankusha Ekadashi Vrat Katha

In ancient times, a fowler named Krodhana lived on Mount Vindhya, he was very cruel. All his life was spent in violence, looting, drinking, and wrongful association with sin. When his last time came, the messengers of Yamraj came to take the fowler and the Yamdoot stated to the fowler that tomorrow is the final day of your life, we will come to pick you up tomorrow.

Listening to this, Fowler became very frightened and Maharishi reached Angira's ashram and Maharishi fell at Angira's feet and started praying. O sage! I've committed sins all my life. Please tell me away, which will erase all my sins and attain salvation. On her request, Maharishi Angira asked her to observe Ashwin Shukla's Papankusha Ekadashi fast.

In accordance with Maharishi Angira, that fowler did this fast and removed all of the sins committed, and by the grace of God, he went to Vishnu Lok by worshiping this fast.
